1st Survey Summary

From now until the Spring of 2026, Shandaken residents, businesses, elected officials, and municipal staff will roll up their sleeves and put their heads together to envision a thriving, resilient future for the town and all 12 hamlets.

This process will be facilitated by Elka Gotfryd and Kate Stryker, consultants from the regional nonprofit Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress (PFP). In 2024, the Town of Shandaken partnered with PFP to secure a Smart Growth grant from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. The grant will fund a collaborative and intensive community engagement process and a thorough analysis of environmental, social, and economic conditions in Shandaken. This process will result in a new comprehensive plan for the Town, which will guide future policy decisions and public investment based on the community’s shared priorities.

The current Shandaken Comprehensive Plan can be found on our Core Documents Page

This project has been funded in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Adirondack Park Community Smart Growth Program through appropriations from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF)
