The nearest Transfer Station for Garbage  is located in Hunter. Rt. 214 to 23A. Right on Lustig Rd to Hylan Rd. Hunter Transfer Station is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 518-263-4807

There is also a Dump on Rt. 212 between Woodstock and Saugerties. 1765 NY-212, 845-679-0514

Residential Compost Program

Compostable items

We can compost the following cooked and uncooked foods:

  • Vegetables and Fruit (without produce stickers)
  • Coffee and tea grounds and bags
  • Egg shells
  • Bread, Pasta and Rice

We cannot compost:

  • Metal or plastic
  • Chicken, fish, Beef or Dairy
  • Cigarettes or dryer lint
  • Bones larger than 1 inch diameter
  • Compostable food service ware or bags
  • Fats, oils and greases
  • Pet or human waste
  • Cheese or dairy products

Bring your compost items to compost area, empty contents in containers. Do not leave your bag or container.

Once a week, a local farmer will collect the containers and turn the food scraps into soil for use on his farm.
